South Devon College Students’ Union has been encouraging students to register to vote ahead of the referendum on 23 June.
With the referendum just a few weeks away, South Devon College SU has been taking a lead in getting its students registered, as part of NUS’ #generationEUvote campaign.
A series of events and activities have taken place to help raise awareness among their students.
Local MP Kevin Foster visited the college to meet a group of A-Level students, listen to their views and answer their questions.
The college hosted two debates, allowing students to learn and discuss topics affected by the referendum, particularly the economy, crime, and the importance of democracy.
Politics lecturer Alex Howarth welcomed the opportunity for students to have their say.
“The EU referendum is such an important vote on the future of this country,” he said.
“It’s great that students of all ages are engaged in debating and exploring the key issues which matter most to them, irrespective of whether or not they are old enough to vote.”
The deadline to register to vote in the referendum is 7 June.
