We are almost ready to unleash this year’s flagship training programme upon officers from across the nations.
It’s called Lead and Change and starts with an amazing summer residential.
Planning has been going on behind the scenes for months and now the courses are fast approaching.
When I was an officer at my first Lead and Change, I didn’t know what to expect or what I would learn. My SU booked me on, and packed me off with a toothbrush and a selection of cardigans and check shirts.
I rocked up at the event a little bit excited, but mostly nervous.
By the end of the week, I had gone through a journey that gave me the confidence to lead my students’ union. That’s what I hope officers will gain from this year’s courses.
Our team of experienced tutors (from both NUS and students’ unions) will train officers in how to be a great leader. Officers will explore ideas, get opportunities to build networks and learn key skills to help get the most out of the year. We will discuss the barriers students may have in accessing the SU as well as introducing everyone to a supportive tutor group – building bonds with fellow officers that will help throughout the year.
Lead and Change 2016 is now open for registration. You can find lots of information on NUS Connect.
I can’t wait to see everyone there.
