HE reforms to be announced by the Queen this May

NUS anticipates that the Queens’ Speech on Wednesday 18th May with include an announcement that there will be an HE Bill this next parliament.

The Queen will be delivering her annual speech from the House of Lords to mark the beginning of a new parliamentary year and to outline the government’s plans for the year ahead. It is expected that the bill will be accompanied, or shortly followed, by a HE White Paper. The White Paper will follow on from the HE Green Paper delivered last autumn and will detail the government’s next steps in terms of HE reform.

Save the date

NUS will deliver two workshops to help students’ unions to get to grips with the White Paper once it arrives. There will be one in the North (31stMay, 12pm-3pm) & one in London (7th June, 12pm-3pm). Please note: as the government have not yet confirmed when the White Paper will be published, it may be that these dates are rearranged if the paper is delivered later than is currently anticipated.

NUS will be keeping students updated with any progress in regards to the HE Bill and corresponding White Paper.
