At the NUS Wales Women’s conference in Cardiff today, students have elected University of South Wales Students' Union President Ellen-Rose Jones as their full time Women’s Officer for 2016/17.
The Women’s Campaign is the autonomous campaign for all students in Wales who self-define as women. The campaign represents those students’ interests as part of NUS Wales and campaign locally and nationally on issues that affect them.
The role of the Women’s Officer is to act as the campaign’s figurehead, serving on a full-time basis for a year, and sitting on NUS Wales National Executive Committee.
Speaking after the election, Ellen said she was very pleased to have been elected and was looking forward to the year ahead.
At the NUS Wales Women’s conference, we welcomed former NUS Wales President and Women’s Officer Katie Dalton and former NUS Wales Women’s Officer Karen Wilkie to take part in a panel discussion. The students also took part in a workshop on the priorities for the women’s campaign, debated motions, and heard from Anna Lee.
The others elected to the NUS Wales Women’s Campaign committee were:
- Steering Officer - Alexa Higgs
- Committee member (FE place) - Hayley Thomas
- Committee member - Gwyneth Sweatman
- Committee member - Whitney Brown
- Committee member - Rebecca Kent
