NUS, Amnesty and Channel 4 partner for ‘Unreported Students' event

Tuesday 13-09-2016 - 16:05

We’re delighted to announce our special Unreported Students event, which takes place on Friday 14 October and will be hosted in conjunction with Amnesty International and Channel 4.

Are your student media groups interested in learning first-hand how stories get chosen, researched and produced?

Unreported Students gives you the opportunity to learn how to gather information and stories in some of the most difficult countries in the world and how to make documentaries fit for broadcast.

The event is a great chance to meet with the programme executives and reporters of Channel 4’s award-winning Unreported World documentary series and Amnesty International’s crisis researchers.

By attending, you’ll learn how to find the most engaging characters and conduct the best interviews, all while ensuring your safety and that of the crew and the community members you are interviewing.

You'll also learn about the editing process of a documentary. How to turn those hours of footage into an engaging and award-winning film! And to consider the ethics of documentary making and the importance of protecting the well-being of contributors.

Students will have exclusive access to journalists from the Unreported World team and the Amnesty researchers and the chance to talk to them personally about their experiences.

Over the course of the afternoon, we will be keen to raise some issues that matter to NUS, Amnesty International and Unreported World – from human rights abuses and struggles for political freedom, to access to health care and the vital role education plays within a society.

With top journalists and researchers with decades of experience between them, we are sure you will leave this event inspired to think about how your career can develop beyond your time at college or university. Not least, we hope you'll leave with ideas for content for your own student media channels.

How do I attend?

Unreported Students will be hosted at Channel 4’s London headquarters (view map) on Friday 14 October from 2.00pm – 5.00pm.

Registration is free, but due to demand, places are extremely limited so book yours today to avoid disappointment!
