We need to build a strong FE movement for a strong FE fightback!
Our colleges and sixth forms are under attack by this Conservative government from left, right and centre, with continuous cuts being made to our institutions, our courses and our resources.
Further education provides 4.1 million student across the UK with the opportunity to reach their full potential, whether it is their first time completing A-levels and/or a BTEC, or their tenth time coming back to education to increase their job prospects or move into higher education. Further education is a lifeline for so many.
This is why it is important that we stand together as a FE movement to campaign for free education, for everyone to have access to quality teaching, learning and assessment and the opportunity to break the cycle of deprivation.
The area reviews that will be taking place across England will change the landscape of FE provision and the way the curriculum will be delivered would vary across the country, making accessing education in FE much more difficult in terms of travel and other welfare issue effect many women and disable people.
We have a long way to go to getting creating education system that has students at the heart of all the process involving their educational journey, however standing together in unity to call for free education in particular in the FE sector is needed more now than ever!
The current migrant crisis ESOL provision has not been more relevant and needed than it is now, and we have duty as a student movement to promote, support and defend the rights for all students to have a chance.
With just days left until the NCAFAC Free Education demonstration in London, I urge everyone to come out in their masses to march with me and thousands of others and take to the streets of London on Wednesday 4 November 2015 at 12 noon to get our voice heard and our priorities on the government’s agenda as FE students.
I am proud, together with the NCAFAC FE reps, to have organised a FE student block to ensure we have a strong FE presents of the diversity of student that study within it. From ESOL students to mature students - this is our time to reclaim back our education and get what we deserve.
This demonstration is more than just for those active in the student movement but for everyone in our communities because further education is for everyone.
FE= Free Education, Further Education, For Everyone.
