The Accommodation Costs Survey, carried out by NUS, has uncovered serious issues in the past few years. By participating, you can help us find out even more.
In 2013, the survey showed that the cost of accommodation had doubled in the past decade and risen well above inflation and maintenance loans. This year we’re hoping to gain even more insight.
The survey, which began in the 1970s, looks in depth at the cost and types of purpose-built accommodation on offer to students, showing both how things have changed, and how they might look in the future. As one of the most important sources of information on student accommodation, it has a wide range of uses: from students’ unions campaigns to university plans for future accommodation provision.
The research comes in two parts. Providers complete an Excel workbook of their current (2014-2015) and forthcoming (2015-2016) student accommodation and then respond to a short online survey.
It’s vital that as many institutions and providers as possible take part in the survey, so that we have a clear picture of what’s on offer across the UK.
Taking part is easy - send your university a link to this page, ask them to fill out the excel sheet here and complete the online survey.
We need your help mapping student costs. By understanding the problem, we can try to solve it.
Extended deadline: you now have until 11 August to encourage your institution to take part.
