Wednesday 10-06-2015 - 15:46

Fifteen colleges and universities received a Healthy Body, Healthy Mind Award at the Scottish Student Sport Conference on Tuesday 9 June 2015.

The Healthy Body Healthy Mind Awards are a partnership initiative between NUS Scotland and Scottish Student Sport which focus on the link between sports, physical activity, smoking prevention and mental health.

This year, participating institutions undertook a great deal of work, some of the highlights include working towards smoke free campuses, the setting up of on campus smoking cessation groups, cross departmental working groups to plan calendars of health and wellbeing initiatives, running and attending training in Scotland’s Mental Health First Aid and also this year smoking prevention, and setting up peer support groups on topics such as disordered eating and over exercise. A number of institutions took Healthy Body Healthy Mind in to the communities surrounding their institution, for example working with local organisations on disability sports projects, developing walking routes and running joint projects with local mental health organisations.

The awards were judged by a panel of experts in the field of mental health, sports and exercise, and smoking prevention and the scores are as follows:
