In July, BIS and DfE jointly announced a review of post-16 education and training institutions. These reviews involve groups of colleges and sixth form centres coming together to propose a series of mergers.
NUS is concerned about this because we know that subject choice and access to education will be at risk if students aren’t heard throughout this process.
There have been seven formal Area Reviews announced since the summer, affecting around 500,000 further education students, alongside informal merger discussions already happening in some colleges.
NUS is clear that these mergers are the inevitable result of cut after cut to the FE sector, putting colleges financially on their knees.
We have produced a series of resources to help you campaign to get students concerns heard throughout these negotiations.
