#GivingTuesday - students doing good stuff for charity

Tuesday 29-11-2016 - 12:22

Following on from Black Friday and Cyber Monday, today is the chance to give something back - it's #GivingTuesday.

#GivingTuesday is the antidote to the frantic purchasing of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. It’s simple really – a global day of doing good stuff for your favourite charity or cause.

Students already do a huge amount of good work in their communities, week in week out, and #GivingTuesday is a chance to get even more people involved.

We’re working with the National Student Fundraising Association (NaSFA) to promote their RaG in London today, which sees them raising money for Farm Africa at tube stations across the capital.

So those in London, if you see people in co costumes collecting money today be sure to give generously…not least because it may just be our Vice President (Union Development) Richard Brooks!

Farm Africa attended NaSFA’s ‘Fundraising University’ course this year, and have recognised the huge potential that students and RAG volunteers have in mobilising charitable networks.

Farm Africa’s Sarah Goddard said: “We’re delighted to have NaSFA and NUS’s support in making our #GivingTuesday collections a success and showing what the power of students fundraising can achieve!”

But doing good stuff doesn’t just involve giving money or volunteering your time (which you still can!) - it could also include: shopping, baking, filming, running, (more)baking, and making!

Be sure to check out the #GivingTuesday or NaSFA websites to see how to get involved, and to share your Giving Story!
