Students’ unions across the UK are building up to the #CutTheCosts Westminster Lobby on 8 December.
Hundreds of students' unions are taking part in the #CutTheCosts Week of Action from 7-11 December. This week alone, SUs including MMU, Huddersfield, Ulster, QUB, UCLAN, Leeds Beckett, Surrey, SU Arts, Lancaster, Christ Church, Edge Hill, Liverpool Hope, Solent, Suffolk and St Marys have signed up to join the Westminster Lobby.
Our guide to mobilising is packed full of ideas of how your SU can join them! We have also developed a series of resources to help you plan your week of action, including: How to deal with local media, How to Lobby, Public Action day and Parents & Family Day. 6ftx3ft banners are also available on request!
Lobby your MP
We need to lobby as many MPs as possible to take action to #CutTheCosts for students. The 18 September constituency lobby successfully engaged many university and college constituency MPS, but the priority now is to target students’ home MPs. It’s important to pre-arrange meetings, which students can do using this template letter.
What will happen on lobby day?
On the day itself students should arrive at Westminster from 11am and leave at least 40 minutes to clear security. Registration & rolling briefings will take place in Committee Room 15 from 11-12 for London/SE based lobbyists and 12 1pm for outside London based lobbyists. Lobbying of MPs will take place between 12.30 – 4pm (unless students have agreed a different time with their MP). NUS has also arranged a rally of MP and other speakers from 2.30 – 3.30pm while people are waiting for meetings with MPs.
